There are almost 300 USA colleges that play women's field hockey at the NCAA collegiate level, and the majority of these universities are situated on the East Coast and in the Midwest region. Hockey is still a massively growing sport and with it's popularity, we are beginning to see top level teams popping up and competing on the West Coast.
A women's field hockey squad is usually made up of 22 hockey players. On average there are only twelve full Scholarships for division 1 teams and six full scholarships for division 2 teams. Field hockey division 3 teams only offer academic scholarships. As a result of the limited assistance, not everyone can get full athletic funding; which is why academic performance is so important. |

If you think you are a good enough to win a scholarship and you are a provincial player, sign up for a scholarship evaluation and a representative will contact you shortly.
Men's Field Hockey
Hockey scholarships at USA universities are only offered to women. Historically, field hockey has only been played by women at American Colleges due to the “Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972", and is one of only two university sports within the NCAA which are exclusive to women, the other is Softball.
Title IX states there needs to be a balance between men and women's participation in college sport. Exclusive women's sports were brought into existence because of sports like American football, which have a very large number of men in a squad. The average number of men per American football team is 110 people. As a result, a variety of women’s sports were brought into the NCAA to correct the gender inequality. The women's NCAA field hockey happened to be one of these sports.
